MARUNAO’s legacy began in 1939 when the Fukuda family’s first generation, Naoyoshi Fukuda, began making carpentry tools in Kanazawa, Japan. Since then, Marunao has worked out of the Niigata Prefecture, continuing to make a variety of hand tools and Classical Japanese instruments. In 2003, under the direction of the Fukuda family’s third generation, Marunao moved into the manufacturing of chopsticks and utensils. These craftsmen draw on their rich experience of working with ebony and shitan (rosewood) using traditional finishing technique. Marunao chopsticks and utensils are highly functional, and are carefully crafted with exquisite attention to every detail; from the tips of the chopsticks to their signature octagonal shape, whilst always bearing in mind the dining experience of the user.
Marunao's 45G and 60G Chopsticks are crafted with a solid Ebony body, capped with a silver end piece and Marunao's crest. 'Maru' means Circle and 'Nao' means honesty or straight. The end has been thickened slightly with wood and silver to give the chopsticks its unique weight. As each person in unique in their personalities, Marunao has crafted different kind of chopsticks to match your tastes!
Size：250mm (9.8in), 8-sided cut, 60g (2.1oz) - **Chopsticks in our inventory measure at 58g.

The length of the chopsticks are made thinner to fit delicately to your lips. Avoid bending which may break the chopsticks. Do not polish with a scrubbing brush or polishing powder. The wood is not coated and will gradually lose its natural gloss. To restore sheen, rub with a bit of olive oil on a cotton cloth piece. Marunao uses a variety of materials, but there is a small possibility that their special tree resin may melt with high heat.
