Kokura-ori was a unique textile that was produced at the beginning of the 17th century by the feudal clan of Kokura area in  southern Japan. The cotton cloth, woven in a vertical stripe pattern, was prized throughout Japan to make beautiful fashion. Thick and strong. Soft and smooth. The artisans of SHIMA SHIMA recreate this traditional fabric with new designs and colors; a modern take on this beautiful historical craft.

SHIMA SHIMA's Square Apron brings traditional into modern! Using a one-shoulder design, this apron is meant to take the weight off your shoulders, and instead, have the apron wrap around your body in a gentle squeeze.

The steps to using this apron are simple :

1. Find where the button is on the square, and place this corner at your left shoulder, with button facing away from you. With your right hand, find where the corner with a hole -- this side (button to hole) will form the diagonal across your chest.

2. Pull the strap coming from the Button-corner diagonally across your back. Then string the strap through the hole. Tighten the strap across your back, towards your left.

3. Take this strap and cross it with the second strap at your lower back, then pull towards your front, to tie into a bow.

4. If the straps are too long at the end, you can loop the straps around your body once more to have a more comfortable tie.

Loosen up those stiff shoulders!
